1Z10 is a UK railway photography collective built on shared enthusiasm, creativity and friendship.

What began simply as a group of like-minded photographers has grown into a supportive community of people who share a love of railways and the images they inspire. At its heart, 1Z10 is about enjoying the railway, learning from one another and encouraging each other to keep improving. We believe the best photography often grows from shared experiences – whether that’s a day spent lineside, a long-planned trip across the country or simply discussing ideas and techniques with friends who share the same passion.

Regular outings take us to all corners of the UK railway network. From dramatic landscapes to busy main lines, heritage railways to hidden corners of the system, these trips offer the chance to explore new locations, experiment creatively and enjoy the railway together. The social side is just as important as the photography – the conversations, the laughter and the friendships that form along the way.

Creativity and friendly competition also play an important role in the collective. Our quarterly photo competitions celebrate the best images from recent months, culminating in an annual competition that showcases the standout photographs of the year. These challenges encourage members to push themselves, try new approaches and continually raise the bar.

While some of our work occasionally appears in the railway press, the real focus of 1Z10 isn’t recognition – it’s the shared enjoyment of creating great images and supporting each other in the process.

There’s no formal membership, no rules and no barriers to getting involved. 1Z10 is simply a collective of keen railway photographers brought together by camaraderie, creativity and a genuine love of the railway.

And as the community grows and evolves, those values remain firmly at the heart of everything we do.
