Inspirational Railway Photography

Driven by Innovation and Friendship

1Z10 is a UK railway photography collective built on shared enthusiasm, creativity and friendship. We believe great images grow from challenge, encouragement and shared experiences. Through camaraderie, learning and a love of the railway, we create inspiring work while building lasting friendships and a strong, evolving community.

Mission

To create and share high quality railway photography that captures not just the subject, but the light, mood and environment in which it exists.

Vision

To build a recognised body of work that reflects the very best in contemporary railway photography, while encouraging creativity and collaboration within the group.

Values

Friendship, camaraderie and creativity guide everything we do. Quality over quantity, sharing knowledge and inspiration.

TransPennine Diversions

A proposed 1Z10 summer outing on Friday 26 June 2026 will explore the Leeds–Mirfield diversionary route through the West Riding, taking advantage of the TransPennine line closure via Morley and Dewsbury. The alternative routing offers a unique opportunity to photograph a wide variety of traffic, including freight, Northern Rail services, Grand Central workings and diverted TransPennine trains. The route combines urban industrial scenes with more open, rural Yorkshire backdrops, providing excellent photographic variety. With a linear layout allowing flexible positioning, good access and long summer daylight hours, the trip promises to be a busy, rewarding and potentially standout day.

Programme Update

The 1Z10 programme of outings is currently under review in light of the ongoing and increasingly uncertain energy situation. In particular, our planned 7-day Scotland trip is being carefully assessed due to the potential impact of rising fuel costs and broader logistical considerations.
We remain committed to providing regular outings and are actively exploring alternative options. This may include a greater focus on shorter trips and outings that utilise public transport, helping to ensure both sustainability and affordability. We will provide further updates as soon as possible while we review the programme.
